On Monday, December 22, 1980, Paul Charles Vlachos, of Alexandria, Va beloved son of John A. and Barbara C. Vlachos, brother of Marie Vlachos, grandson of Charles Pendergrass and the late Lois Pendergrass, nephew of Marion Pendergras, Charles Pendergrass, Helen Kanes and Dr. Vasillios A. Vlachos.

Friends may call at Ives Funeral Home, 2847 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Va from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, December, 23, where prerequiem services will be held 7:45 p.m.  Funeral services Wednesday, December 24, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, Glen Carlin at Fifth Roads South, Arlington, Va., Interment National Memorial Park. 

If desired contributions may be made to St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church special projects fund.

Paul C. Vlachos, 20, died when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Fairfax County

On December 22,1980, Paul Vlachos passed away. He was in a car accident.Paul was 20 years old at the time of his death.

Paul was a TRUE friend to many.

We love and miss you Paul.

The losses are all tragic, of course, but one in particular hit home. Paul Vlachos. The driver that hit his car was my best friend in HS. I know, to this very day, he feels horrible about that night. [T] wouldn't deliberately hurt a fly, he really wouldn't. I know there's nothing I can say that would make anyone feel better about the loss of their friend or family member, but rest assured that [T] grieves for Paul and his family, very, very much.

Patrick,

Your words regarding Paul are very touching. [T] was lucky to survive that terrible accident - and it only adds to the tragedy if he blames himself. My heart goes out to him, as well, since that experience must certainly be difficult to reconcile.

Paul was a really good person and I'm sure he would want [T] to live a full and happy life. It means everything that [T] thinks about Paul and his family and that he feels their loss. Thank you for passing it on to us.

I too would think Paul and his family know that it was an accident. And as hard as it may be for "T" - he needs to know he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Paul would want him to celebrate his life and not have the guilt. They'll meet again one day and surely Paul will tell him - he knew just that and he prayed "T" hadn't grieved his whole life for him.

We should look at the blessing that God called Paul Home. That Paul's work was done here on earth. He inspired many with his great attitude. Maybe "T" could help celebrate by doing something in Paul's name or doing something that he knew Paul would have loved doing. Nothing can change what happened. So celebrate Paul and live your life with him in mind.
